The class action research is as an effort to increase the students’
skill to express the simple descriptive monolog of the students class VIIA, SMP
Negeri 2 Jabon, Sidoarjo region. This is a solution of the difficulties of the
English teacher to teach the student in oral learning activity. It used three
cycles of the ICARE system, there are Introduce, Connect, Apply, Reflect and
Extend, with the learning topic was The
Personal Description and the sub topic were: (1) The Human’s Face description
connected with Possessive Pronoun, “his and her” in the first cycle, (2) The
Human’s body description connected with Pronoun as subjects, “He and She” and
the verb “wears” followed by nouns related with clothes, in the second cycle
and (3) Continuing individual assessment
and remedial activity with the peer lesson in the last cycle. In order to get
meaningful and interesting teaching and learning, the personal description was
connected to describe famous people using English literary proficiency.
The finding from observer and the students’ questioners in qualitative
approach and also the students’ process or individual assessment documents show
that the ICARE system could increase the students’ skill to express orally the
simple descriptive monolog in terms of:
(1) increasing of the students skills to express the simple descriptive
monolog, (2) improving the students’ ability to use spoken English literary
proficiency dealing with the correct pronunciation, structure and fluently and (3)
increasing the students’ self confident.
